The Finalists for the 2018 Most Admired CEO Award have been named, and Plumb’s very own Robert Scherer was among those honored.

2017 – 2018 Professional Achievements

Robert Scherer founded Plumb, previously known as “The Accounting Group” in 1996 after creating a business plan as part of his final project to achieve his MBA from San Diego State University.

Under Scherer’s direction, Plumb started with 7 employees as one of San Diego’s first outsourced accounting firms. Now, with growth to almost 50 employees, 200+ clients, 4 office locations and offering additional products and services, Plumb has branded and marketed outsourced accounting into the mainstream as a feasible option for companies of any size.

As CEO, Scherer oversees every aspect of Plumb, including working with the managers of each division and office location to gain their perspective and implement strategies for positive results.

Scherer volunteers his time to provide speaking engagements throughout southern California, including CFMA (construction financial management association) of Riverside, San Diego and Orange County, AGC (association of general contractors), and the ASA (association of subcontractors).

He works with many long-term referral partners and as seen as a leader in the construction industry for his accounting expertise.

Robert Scherer is the CEO and Founder of Plumb with over 20 years of business and financial experience planning and managing complex programs for clients in a variety of different industries.  He has worked with companies with annual revenues ranging from $1 million to over $100 million. Scherer graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in International Business.  He holds an MBA from San Diego State University.

Creating a Positive Work Environment and Valuing Employee Satisfaction

Scherer goes the extra mile in recognizing his employees by holding the Plumb Corporate Awards. Where employees and teams are recognized in various categories such as, the top performers, top team, most improved, best newcomer, and the Plumb internal award to recognize team members in the corporate division. Award winners receive prizes and the top team is treated to dinner at the restaurant of their choice.

With Scherer’s guidance, Plumb remains consistent with staying connected and celebrating milestones with the staff.  Since Plumb has employees in 3 different office locations, they host a quarterly event for the entire team.  Plumb comes together to host an employee happy hour/party, complete with fun games to share highlights of each division and recognize top-ranked employees. The smaller teams meet monthly to celebrate achievements and enjoy team building events.

To ensure employee satisfaction, Scherer encourages team members to participate in anonymous surveys which are taken into consideration when making decisions. His open-door policy promotes empowerment amongst Plumb’s employees to speak their mind. The implementation of new policies such as the telecommuting policy and Plumb’s office remodel proves that not only does Scherer puts his employees’ happiness as a priority but that they can also make a difference within the company.

Empowering and Inspiring others

Scherer rewards hard work and dedication by promoting from within the company for many of his high-level positions. While keeping each team members’ goals in mind, Scherer offers mentorship and guidance to many of Plumb’s team members that have started in entry level positions and are now finding success in leadership roles.

Plumb Clients can now share sensitive information with their consultants and vice versa through the Cloud’s secure network – making client collaboration even more efficient.
